Microsoft sells more games per xbox 360 sold than its rival console makers. That’s according to some interesting stats from the US about console sales compared to game sales.

Nearly seven games are sold per Xbox 360 compared to nearly four for a PlayStation 3. The Wii weighs in at slightly less. It sells 3.44 games according to the research from NPD and reported by joystig These figures aren’t entirely surprising – the PS3 is still in early life and the ecosystem in development, while the Xbox 360 is now a mature console.

Leadership

• More than 11.6 million Xbox 360 consoles have sold across the 37 countries where it is currently available. Xbox Live is currently available in 25 countries across the globe.
• According to U.S. NPD data, gamers have bought more software for the Xbox 360 (24.3 million units), than software for PS3 and Wii combined (19.8 million units).
• Faster than expected, Xbox Live has eclipsed the 7 million member milestone and is on track to reach 10 million members by the end of June 2008. In fact, in the last year we’ve added a new Xbox Live member every 8 seconds.

Gaming

• There are more than 250 games available today on Xbox 360, including 86 Xbox Live Arcade games.
• Xbox 360 is the next-gen console with the largest games attach rate at an astounding 6.3 games sold per Xbox 360 owner.
• Xbox Live members have spent more than 3.2 billion hours playing games on Xbox Live with their friends around the world. That is equal to 137 million days or more than 376,000 years of gaming.
• To date, Xbox 360 owners have unlocked more than 600 million Achievements. All of those unlocked Achievements have created a total combined Gamerscore of more than 14 billion.
• There have been 2.5 billion game sessions hosted since the launch of Xbox 360, with more than 5.6 million hosted each day so far in 2007.
• Xbox Live Arcade has been a huge hit on Xbox 360, with nearly 70% of all connected consoles downloading and playing Xbox Live Arcade titles.
• Xbox Live Marketplace currently offers nearly 200 free trials and demos, giving owners more free playable content than any other console.

So here are a few interesting facts about the PlayStation 3 you may (or may not) be interested in knowing:

• After plenty of gameplay the console is cool — or at worst warm — to the touch on every surface. In a side by side test with the Xbox 360, the console is comparably virtually silent, and the Blu-ray drive is significantly quieter than the 360’s DVD drive.
• USB keyboards and mice will be plug-n-play, no fuss at all. Who really wants to browse the web with a PlayStation controller anyway?
• Bluetooth mice and keyboards will not work with the system at launch.
• Any (A2DP) Bluetooth headset should theoretically work with the system, though Sony will have a recommended hardware list.
• The EyeToy is the only USB webcam that will work with the system. The original PS2 EyeToy should still work with the PS3.
• There are currently no plans for VGA out on the PlayStation3.
• The system will not support more than seven controllers.
• There are currently no plans for a cheaper, wired version of the SIXAXIS.
• With its media playback software one can have in-game custom soundtracks, as with the Xbox 360, Wii, etc.
• Despite rumors Sony insists the US is still officially targeted for a 400k unit launch; Japan is still set for a mere 80k. Sony execs are actually expecting an upturn in unit production before launch, so those numbers may actually go up.
• Some titles have an option to install some amount of game data (in addition to saved data) to the drive. Genji can install 4GB worth of data to decrease load times (quoted to drop from 12-15 seconds down to 3-4); this game data can be removed at any time without affecting your saved games.
• The drive can be upgraded, although not on any official basis (read: YMMV, do so at your own risk, you may void warranty, etc.).
• You cannot leave voice or picture messages for other users on the PlayStation Network, only text.

So many offers around at the monent and so little info here is our guide…Sony has recently released the new 40 GB Playstation 3 and reduced the price. So is it better value or are we getting less for our money?

Both play all playstation 3 (PS3) games(all ps3 games are region free) and both play Blu-Ray Discs (be careful if you bought/buy from asia as the blu-ray will be region A and the uk is region B altho you can get region free discs)so its really down to if you want to play playstation 2 (PS2) games! The reduced USB’s and removed memory card reader dont matter so much,  while they are handy already installed you can add more USB ports and a memory card reader at a later date.

There have also been some cosmetic changes , the gorgeous chrome trim and PS3 lettering has been replaced with a matt silver finish ,the letters are now painted on.Where you lifted the front of the PS3 up to reveal the memory card reader no longer opens, its solid.There is also an air outlet for the fans which has been removed from the front of the console.

So its not quite as pretty to look at but it does do the same job at a smaller price. No PS2 compatibility is a real shame, Sony argue that now there is a larger selection of PS3 games we dont need the backwards compatibility? More like they need to cut costs! Whatever the case the recent price cut has seen PS3 sales rocket,this along with the Wii shortages should start Sony off to a good new year! Still unsure which model you want, ask yourself these questions..

• Would i need the extra 20 GB of storage?
• Will I want to play PS2 games on it ?
• Will i need 4 USB’s ports instead of 2?
• Would I use the memory card reader?

If you answered No to all the questions then you will be more than happy with the 40 GB model, it does everything you need. However if you answered Yes to any of them I would go for the 60 GB model. You get all those extras and as a bonus you get the stylish Chrome trim which makes it look that little bit smarter. If you do choose the 60 GB you better be quick, they wont be around much longer!

 the XBOX 360 is microsofts 7th generation console, which competes with the Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. There are 4 versions of the XBOX 360 out today: Xbox 360 Elite (Most expensive version at £300+ with same features as all other bundles, except HDMI and black console & accessories. Xbox 360 Premium (2nd most expensive version at £250, with chrome disc tray, 20GB HDD, wireless controller & headset included). Xbox 360 Arcade ( Least Expensive version at £190, same as premium except no chrome disc tray or 20GB HDD, but comes with HDMI not seen in the premium). DISCONTINUED Xbox 360 Core (Basically same as Xbox Arcade, except wired controller, no HDMI etc)

Firstly lets just reassure ourselfs what you’ll actually be getting for £189.99, as apposed to the £250 Premium Package.

1. Xbox 360 console built on new 60/65nm (or whatever size) Processor, this runs much cooler, quiter than the standard 90nm processor seen in current £250+ Xbox 360 premium bundles, which are to this day prone to overheating known as “3 Red lights” Or in other words General Hardware failure meaning they have to be sent back to Microsoft for repairs, although Premium 360s built end of 2007 onwards have been built using newer 60/65nm processor chipset.
2. Wireless Controller included, exactly the same as whats included with the £250 Premium package.
3. Standard AV cable, exactly the same as whats included with the £250 Premium package.
4. 256MB Memory Unit, might not be the same as the 20GB HDD included with the Premium bundle, but the 20GB HDD can easily be purchased off ebay for £30, so no huge cost there.
5. 5 Free live arcade titles, whereas the Premium bundle has no included games.
6. THIS ARCADE 360 COMES WITH HDMI OUTPUT, Premium bundle has standard Hd/av component.

So if your unsure as to wether or not this is a good package, consider this for £190 you get a much more effecient 360 with games, memory, and even HDMI, whereas for a £250 premium bundle you only get 20gb hdd, overheating processor, and a headset.

This console is just as good as the more expensive console bundles, so if your not sure, £190 Arcade vs £250 Premium, this is a much better deal.

Recommended Accessories:
1. HDMI Cable (£10 Ebay).
2. Wireless Adapter (£50 Brand New, although a standard £5 ethernet cable works just as fine for IConnection to the Internet aka Xbox Live).
3. 20Gb HDD (£25-£35 Ebay).
4. Headset for online gaming (Only realistically necessary if you buy the above upgrades for online gaming, £10 Ebay).

Some of you might point out that if you were to buy all these upgrades, you would be spending just as much as if you bought a Premium bundle, which is true however you would then have a premium bundle BUT with HDMI output and a more effecient processor less prone to overheating, so it makes sense to buy this console wether or not you plan on buying the upgrades mentioned above. 

NOTE TO CONFUSED PARENTS: This console has parental friendly settings to prevent younger console users from viewing material that you might not find appropriate, this is Microsofts main selling point actually for this console, as its aimed for younger audiences. These settings are easily applied on the console with the included instructions, I know as i used to own an XBOX 360 and its literally 2 minute task. If you are unsure about how to do anything, just google your problem as there are hundreds of forums for people like yourselfs who are having problems using thier XBOX 360 consoles. So don’t be offput by all the flash & bang when you think of a newer, more complex games console…its still just as easy to use as any old thing!
